OUR STORY

GRIT Commons began in 2020 as a fiscally sponsored project at Chuckanut Health Foundation, with a focus on building community power through ecosystem cultivation and collective action.

Over time, the work has grown to include leadership development, policy innovation, and scalable models for community engagement. Today, GRIT Commons is evolving into an independent 501(c)(4) organization to expand its impact in advancing racial justice and health equity.

WHAT IS A COMMONS?

A commons is something that is built, shared, and stewarded collectively.

At GRIT Commons, we develop tools, strategies, and systems not for individual ownership, but for shared use—so communities and organizations can access, adapt, and build upon them in their own work.

The dandelion is central to our identity.

Often seen as a weed, it is in fact a powerful, resilient plant. Every part of it has value. Its roots grow deep and strong, and when disrupted, it returns even stronger.

THE DANDELION STORY

Dandelions also spread—carrying seeds outward, planting new possibilities wherever they land.

GRIT Commons operates in the same way. We build work that is resilient, deeply rooted, and designed to spread—sharing ideas, tools, and strategies that can take hold and grow in many places.

MISSION (IN DEVELOPMENT)
